All change at Pharmacy membership bodies
Following the resignation of John Turk as chief executive of the NPA in April, the Association has just advertised for a Chief Executive to lead this trade body.

The salary of  £130,000 plus benefits is likely to attract quite a bit of interest.

Meanwhile The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) and the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) have recently announced their intention to complete the work for the transfer of the regulatory functions of the Society to the GPhC as the new pharmacy regulator by the end of September this year.

No doubt as part of the process to improve membership focus, this week, the RPSGB announced it was introducing discounted membership fees for pharmacists who are retired, on maternity leave or currently out of work.

With unemployment standing at 7.9% (according to the Office for National Statistics), it has become increasingly important for membership bodies to remain in contact with members who are out of work. By acknowledging these special circumstances and finding a solution to the accompanying financial strain, the Society is making it easier to maintain links throughout the entire profession, as well as providing support those for who are not practising.
